FG PAYS N57MILLION
COMPENSATION ON NIGERIA – BENIN BOUNDARY
The Federal Government
has paid the sum of N57million as compensation to affected
property owners at Ilara and Iwoye towns of Ogun State for the
demolition of their structures which straddled Nigeria’s
boundary with Benin Republic.
The Director General,
National Boundary Commission, Surveyor Sadiq Diggi, who paid the
compensation on behalf of the Federal Government, said that
after proper assessment of the cost of all structures that
straddled the boundary, our Commission is paying the
compensation and these property owners would be given two weeks
to salvage whatever possible from their properties for us to
open a boundary corridor, a vista in this International
boundary.
The planned vista
creation, Surveyor Diggi noted would clearly define the
territorial limit of the two nations and it would enhance the
existing cordial relationships between the two countries. He
also noted that it would build an enduring peace among the
border Communities since the boundary would be identifiable.
Already, in Iwoye town, facilities like Community School
comprising of blocks of classrooms with toilets and
administrative offices, cattle market, boreholes and market
stalls were build by the Commission. Also, in Igbokofi, a clinic
with an ambulance, Police Station, market stalls, boreholes and
Community School with classrooms, toilets and administrative
offices were constructed. |
